Marianne Schuppe

My interest in voice draws me toward the space between music and language. An area where the grain of words merges with the fluidity of sound.
This oscillation has guided my work since the eighties, when I began singing the music of Giacinto Scelsi and Morton Feldman. I have pursued it through various forms and collaborations: improvisation, interpretation, reweighing the traditional ingredients of song, developing projects with and for voices, teaching and writing. In recent years, I have turned more specifically to the borderlands where music passes into poetry. In this vein, colline sur livre has been an ongoing work since 2022.
